Where to start with Wedding Planning?
So your partner has finally popped the question or maybe it was you that took the plunge, well either way congratulations! This is about to be the most exciting journey for you both, planning your special day.
You’ve told all your friends and family, posted all your newly engaged pictures… but now what? Where do you start with wedding planning?!
The list feels never ending; visiting wedding fairs, speaking to friends, looking through bridal magazines and surfing through Instagram for the most wow wedding pictures or even starting a wedding board on Pinterest can all be great ways to get inspiration for your special day. But with so much choice online, it can make starting wedding planning seem very overwhelming, so we are here to help you narrow down exactly how to start planning your wedding day…
ONE - HOW MANY GUESTS WILL YOU INVITE?
The first thing you may want to do is work out how many guests you and your partner want to invite. Will it be a small and intimate wedding or are you wanting a larger celebration, you want to get on the same page, so that you both are happy with your choice. This is also a key component when you decide your venue, as some venues may only be licensed for a certain amount, so this could rule out some of your options. You won’t want to book an enormous venue if you are only having a few guests!
TWO - BUDGET
The million dollar (or not!) question. This is an important task, no matter how much you may want to put it off. You need to look at setting a budget, a max number that you are willing to spend. Talk to each other and agree a figure, making sure it is realistic and achievable! It’s also a great opportunity to consider how you’ll be spending that budget i.e. what is the most important to you both? Do you want to spend more of your budget on food or flowers? Figure out your personal priorities as this will help you stick to your budget; if you splurge in one area, you can cut back in another to keep on track with that total figure.
THREE - THEME
Have a think about what sort of theme you are going for. We’re not suggesting a medieval wedding, a theme could just be a colour scheme for example! Pinterest is a great resource here as there is so much wedding material at your fingertips. Save pictures onto a wedding board that you like, you could have one for cakes, dresses, venues etc. Once you have started to collect these images, you will be able to see the types of themes you like without even realising, helping you to narrow down choices and see what fits. Show it to your partner or both make one and see the areas that you both have in common, so that you can find a theme that fits you both.
FOUR - SET A DATE
Setting a date is important and you want to do this early on, so that your guests can save the date. Make sure you are checking with friends and family that you feel you must have at your wedding, making sure that they will definitely be free before you book in with the venue. The wedding date will also be extremely important when it comes to booking in any suppliers, so without it you wont make much progress.
FIVE - HIRE A PLANNER!
Or at least get some support on board to share the load. There are lots of aspects to a wedding, from the caterer to the photographer right down to the people you’re hiring the crockery and cutlery from! The supplier lists can be endless. So keeping up with everything can be overwhelming. Getting a planner that’s specifically there for you and your wedding, will be so helpful. We can keep track of when things will need to be paid for and when decisions need to be made by. We are there to make your day that extra bit special, taking away all the stress of planning which allows you to actually enjoy your day knowing everything is being done for you.
